|Neighbourhoods Canal East|
One of the city's emerging urban villages, Canal East is desirable for its immediate proximity to Downtown as well as being bordered by both the Canal and the Rideau River. Historically known as ‘Old Ottawa East’, the area’s heritage is evident through historical buildings such as the Old Town Hall and Saint Paul University. The neighbourhood’s main artery is Main Street which runs from the Canal south to Smyth Road.
Although this has largely been a forgotten section of urban Ottawa, there is a slow influx of infill developments and an expansion of the neighbourhood's commercial base including a farmers’ market at St. Paul’s University: a natural fit for a health conscious neighbourhood that is home to The Green Door, Ottawa’s original vegetarian restaurant, not to mention Brantwood Park on the Rideau River.
One of Ottawa’s first luxury buildings with 24hr security, tennis, squash, indoor pool and a golf range—these are lavish, entertainment sized units with walls of windows, panoramic views and an idyllic location.
Lack of building amenities is compensated by the location, stunning architecture and spacious loft designs boasting 16ft ceilings, a rooftop terrace and underground parking.
Something of an Ottawa landmark with its distinctive architecture and a dramatic, curved façade facing the Canal; some very stylish executive units with balconies, some with fireplace, very secure.
